AUSTRALIA has dropped down five spots to 43rd in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings which were released last Wednesday.This was despite the Socceroos being unbeaten in qualifying so far.

With the Socceroos sitting top of the 2010 World Cup qualifying group with four points from two games so far, the announcement of the venues for the remaining home games has got soccer fans around the country buzzing with excitement.

The game against Iraq in Brisbane will be Australia’s first World Cup Qualifier in the state since 1992 and there is likely to be a huge expectation in the build up to this match, particularly as the match will be crucial to Australia’s chances of progressing from the group. Iraq are the current Asian Cup holders and they defeated Australia 3-1 in Bangkok en route to clinching the title, so no doubt the Brisbane match will offer the Socceroos a chance of revenge.
