Socceroos Squad Finalised Ahead of Super June Football

Australian national football coach Pim Verbeek has named the Socceroos team to participate in the teams remaining qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

All but one of the squad play in foreign leagues. Jason Čulina, who has signed with Gold Coast United FC, is the exception.

A-League Return Worries Viduka

MARK Viduka won’t be part of the Socceroos squad to play Qatar in a World Cup qualifier next month and his distinguished career as an international player could be over.

While national coach Pim Verbeek will leave the door open to the big striker when he names an extended 30-man squad for the final three qualifiers against Qatar in Doha on June 7, Bahrain in Sydney on June 10 and Japan in Melbourne on June 17, it appears unlikely he will take up the offer.

Jesus Kennedy EPL Bound?

Socceroo Josh Kennedy could be set to end his nine-year stay in Germany after his club Karlsruhe was relegated from the Bundesliga on the weekend.

Kennedy ended his nightmare season with two goals as his side hammered Hertha Berlin 4-0, but the result wasn’t enough to preserve Karlsruhe’s stay in the German top flight.

Rhys Williams Disapoints Welsh Football Supporters

“I ENJOY playing for Wales. That’s where I am and that’s where I intend to remain.

“I don’t think I could switch. Wales have been good to me and I’ve made my decision to play here.”

Those words were reportedly uttered by Rhys Williams just 28 days ago.

This week, Wales learned he has defected to Australia.

To be fair to Williams, he is from Perth, I suppose. But so much for sincerity, you could also say.

Nobody comes out of this sorry tug-of-war, which Wales have lost, smelling of any roses.

Not Williams, whose mind seems to have changed more dramatically than Margaret Thatcher and the poll tax.
