Scottish giants Celtic have announced that they are to play a friendly in Australia in July.

Gordon Strachan’s side, containing Socceroo Scott McDonald, will face Brisbane Roar, whose line-up includes former Rangers pair Craig Moore and Charlie Miller.

The game will take place on Sunday, July 12, at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said: “Celtic are fortunate to enjoy the support of millions of people worldwide and it will be a great privilege to ensure that many of our Australian supporters have the chance to see the team play in their own country.

“As well as playing in the match we are hoping to stage a number of other supporter events and we are sure we will make this a trip to remember for Celtic and our fans.”

Roar coach Frank Farina still believes in the Queensland skipper playing very soon and denied he'd played his last game for Australia.

Roar coach Frank Farina still believes in the Queensland skipper playing very soon and denied he’d played his last game for Australia.

“Not at all, it just depends on what course of treatment if any Craig has to go through, but it’s not going to change him as a player,” the Roar coach said.

“When he comes back and gets on the park, which I know he’s desperate to do already, it will be the same Craig Moore, it won’t affect his playing style at all.

“I wouldn’t imagine it would affect his (place in the) national team.

“As long as Craig Moore is playing good football I’m sure he’ll be one of the first ones in the national squad.

“Craig thinks he’s going to play in two weeks and with that sort of attitude I can’t see him being out for too long.”

Moore’s eight-month international hiatus was largely due to his doubts about whether his fitness would hold up over a long A-League off-season.

But his strong start to the 2008-09 season and a renewed hunger to play top-level football has him aiming for the 2010 World Cup.

“Craig is in the best shape physically that I’ve seen in many years,” Farina said.

“Once he gets the green light it won’t take him long to get back into the rhythm of things.

“He’s a fighter, it’s as simple as that and he’ll fight this through.”

Socceroos and Queensland Roar defender Craig Moore has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifier against Bahrain, after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Moore has been ruled out after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer in Brisbane yesterday, announced by his manager on Wednesday evening.

“At this point there are no thoughts regarding injury replacement players and the club will be guided by medical advice on a timeframe for Craig’s return to training and playing,” a Queensland Roar media statement said.

“Craig’s health and wellbeing are of the utmost importance to the club and we will offer him and his family all the support required in order to help him make a full recovery.”

Verbeek said he was taken aback when he heard the news about Moore.

“It’s always a shock to hear of a diagnosis like this but I am encouraged by the prognosis from the medical practitioner. I speak for the entire team in wishing him a speedy recovery,” he said.

Queensland Roar today announced that they are moving their administration and training base to Ballymore, which is also the home of Rugby Union's Queensland Reds.

Queensland Roar today announced that they are moving their administration and training base to Ballymore, which is also the home of Rugby Union’s Queensland Reds.

The Roar will abandon their current Richlands venue during the next fortnight and will base their operations at Ballymore from November 3.

“Ballymore provides not only a quality training venue, but also makes the club more centrally located for both our loyal fans and corporate partners.” said Roar chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk.

“We would like to thank Queensland Rugby Union for the opportunity to move to Ballymore and look forward to developing a strong relationship with such a professional organisation.

“People think because we are rival codes we should be competing, but we both represent Queensland in national competitions and we feel this can be a mutually beneficial relationship.”

Mr Oudendyk said the move did not signal a change of venue for match days, with the club continuing its current agreement with Suncorp Stadium for Hyundai A-League fixtures.
