Galaxy & Thunder a no go

A-League hopefuls the Gold Coast Galaxy and Northern Thunder will almost surely have to wait another season for entry into the Hyundai A-League. Football Federation Australia were not convinced that the fledgling franchises were up to scratch for the coming 2008/09 season. This all despite FFA chiefs granting provisional licenses to both clubs just two weeks earlier.

It was thought that the Queensland clubs were a “shoe-in” for the fourth edition of the Australian competition.

Months of hard work, particularly by the Galaxy bid have not gone completely to waste as it is believed that the FFA has promised the Galaxy entry into season 2009/10.

Further concerns with the Galaxy bid included the contract to lease the Skilled Stadium but that is something that the Galaxy say would have been rectified by kickoff later on this year.

Its not all negative for the Queensland public as the FFA have promised to bring international football to Skilled Stadium this year, most likely Olyroos and the pre-season cup.

The Gold Coast Galaxy were in talks with out-of-contract Juninho and ex-Sydney FC star and Sunderland benchwarmer, Dwight Yorke.
