Melbourne Victory go down 2-0 to Gamba Osaka

MELBOURNE Victory are out of the running for this year’s Asian Champions League crown after going down to Gamba Osaka for the second time in two weeks. They lost 2-0 on a cold and rainy evening in Osaka.

Masato Yamazaki who has only scored 3 goals in 80-odd appearances for the club, got both goals on the night to put his side 7 points ahead of the Victory in Group G. It is now impossible for Melbourne to come top of the Group.
Gamba fully deserved their win and the 3-points as they created many more chances throughout the game. Despite this, Melbourne has some early chances in the first half but were poor in the final third of the pitch. The best chance fell to Allsopp who clipped the top of the bar from a tight angle. That would have made the game 1-1.
The game was over as a contest on 57 minutes when Yamazaki scored his second of the evening at the far post.
Osaka could have scored another 2-3 goals in the final 30 minutes but were denied by Victory goalkeeper Theoklitos and some poor finishing
