The match almost never reached kickoff and was delayed 30 minutes thanks to an electrical storm which left the pitch waterlogged.

Pim Verbeek was thankful that the referee gave the green light because the score was 2-0 at the half-time break thanks to goals from goal-machine Tim Cahill and a penalty from Brett Emerton.

Emerton made it 3-0 with beautifully taken shot across the face of goal while Josh Kennedy made it 4-0 late on as he rose above to the keeper to put away another trademark finish.

Australia has now defeated Qatar in their last 3 matches with a 10-1 goals difference and it could have been worse for the maroon and whites.

The Socceroos have picked up six out of a possible six points in their first two matches of the final leg of Asian World Cup qualifying and have surged to the top of Group A after Japan could only muster a 1-1 draw against Uzbekistan in Japan.

Australia just need to finish in the top two teams of Group A to go straight to South Africa in 2010.

Australia is booked to face off against Bahrain in mid-November away and then Japan in February next year.
