Socceroos set to meet Holland in another Euro-Friendly

Philips Stadium, Eindhoven

FOOTBALL Federation Australia have gotten serious about World Cup qualification for 2010 by organising yet another European friendly match this time against The Netherlands on September 6, 2008. The match is scheduled just four days before Australia kicks off their crucial final round of World Cup qualifiers against Uzbekistan on 10 September.

“It’s important that we go into the Uzbekistan game with as much preparation as possible, and playing a team which is ranked 5th in the world and made the quarter finals of Euro 2008 will give us just what we need at that time,” Buckley said.

Holland will also use this as a warm-up match as they are set to start their own World Cup qualifying campaign against Macedonia.

The two nations have only met once before and that was in a warm-up match before the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The match ended 1-1 thanks to a scrambled effort by Tim Cahill after Viduka’s penalty was saved.

This match will take place at Philips Stadium, Eindhoven. Kick-off will be at 8:45pm local time (5:45am AEST)
